On the program at home: well-being, zenitude and relaxation…
In interior decoration, cocooning is related to well-being, zenitude and relaxation. A cocooning interior is an interior where comfort and softness reign, and in which you feel like you are in a little cocoon… The absolute need to recharge your batteries being more present in winter, here are some tips for creating an atmosphere warm and 100% cocooning at home.
Five golden rules for a cocooning interior
Rule n°1: favor cocooning materials
A cocooning interior is ideal for keeping fit and in good spirits… even when the cold weather of autumn and winter sets in, and our mood follows the same curve as that of the outside temperatures. To go against this pattern, the first thing to do is to favor so-called cocooning materials and textures in our interior.
Indeed, soft , soft, fluffy and warm materials allow you to create cozy and comforting spaces, whether in the bedroom, living room or office.
So don’t hesitate to replace fresh cottons in your rooms with woolens, silk, sheepskin, faux fur and velvet. PVC and melamine can also give way to wood; but if it is not possible to change all the furniture in your room, the warm atmosphere can be brought by curtains , cushions , tablecloths, poufs or even rugs . For example, each patio door and window can be adorned with double curtains to block out the cold.
Also highlight authentic and natural rattan, wood, leather and wicker objects rather than glass trinkets.
Rule #2: focus on natural colors
Among the rules to follow to create a cocooning interior , one of the most important concerns the choice of colors . And there, the line to follow is simple: nothing should attack or excite; on the contrary, everything must soothe and comfort. This is why shades of beige and brown will be highlighted. A few touches of red, ocher and English green can enhance the whole look in complete harmony.
In the kitchen and dining area, tea towels, napkins, tablecloths and curtains come alive with small squares. You can therefore opt for a Scottish fabric with a red tendency.
The bedroom is no exception to the rule either: it must be welcoming and invite rest as well as softness. In a cocooning interior, the bed linen is adorned with autumnal colors, greige, beige and gray. Nothing like playing marmots and recharging your batteries in the arms of Morpheus!
Just like the colors, lighting also needs to be taken care of in each room of the home. It is better to avoid direct lights and give priority to powdery and diffused lighting to gently warm up the atmosphere. We then equip the lights with less dazzling economical bulbs, without forgetting the candles, of course.
Rule #3: pay attention to small details
It’s a fact: no cocooning interior without taking care of the details so that they serve the senses. And among them, the olfactory atmosphere is important. To do this, focus on scented candles and potpourris with a predominantly powdery content. Vanilla, cinnamon, rose, cardamom and amber are perfect to help you find the necessary relief when snow covers nature. Likewise, the smell of a wood fire will be perfect for comforting the whole family and transforming an interior into a haven of peace in which it is good to live and relax.
And because hearing should not be neglected either, don’t forget about ambient music , soft, enveloping and melodious. Thus, acoustic guitar and piano give lightness to a relaxing day in a perfectly successful cocooning interior. And for optimal comfort, all that remains is to enjoy a hot chocolate accompanied by a homemade orange cake. They will inevitably bring back the most comforting childhood memories…
Rule #4: think about pleasant background music
And because hearing should not be neglected either, don’t forget about ambient music, soft, enveloping and melodious. Thus, acoustic guitar and piano give lightness to a relaxing day in a perfectly successful cocooning interior. In winter, the best music in the world is obviously that of the logs crackling in the fireplace…
And for optimal comfort, all that remains is to enjoy a hot chocolate accompanied by a homemade orange cake. They will inevitably bring back the most comforting childhood memories.
Rule n°5: opt for very soft lighting
You will have understood, a cocooning interior and an interior in which softness reigns supreme. We therefore forget about the ceiling lights which provide white, artificial lighting throughout the house, and instead focus on:
- Yellow light bulbs ( more natural and warmer);
- Indirect lighting : floor lamps in the corners of the room, light garlands wound along a piece of furniture or placed in a glass jar, without forgetting of course the candles for an intimate and warm feel.
